Akitas and cats can be friends if raised properly
Akitas are excellent with their own family's children, and can be excellent with other children, if raised properly, with socialization as a key component.
The crate can be a nice place of refuge, to take some quiet time, in a safe place.
Training Classes are important for many reasons. Mainly for socializing with other people and dogs, and hey, it's a PLUS, if they learn a few things along the way! LOL
